Production of the XK120 began in 1948, the first 242 cars had wood-framed open 2-seater bodies with aluminium panels. The 120 in the name referred to the top speed of these early models. In 1952 a fixed head coupe was run at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry for seven days and nights, covering a total of 16,851.73 mi (27,120.23 km) at an average speed of 100.31 mph (161.43 km/h).
